Also known as Aurelius Augustinus
Bishop, theologian and restless seeker whose Confessions gave the Christian West a new language for the inner life.
Augustine spent his youth in study, ambition and philosophical wandering before a decisive conversion in a garden in Milan. As bishop of Hippo he preached, wrote and led a church through the collapse of Roman order in North Africa.
Augustine lived as the Western Roman Empire began to fall. The sack of Rome in 410 shaped his theology of history in the City of God.
A restless heart drawn toward the One who is both nearer than we are to ourselves and beyond all our thought.
Augustine speaks to seekers, students, and anyone whose faith has been forged through doubt.
