The Gospels present Joseph as a carpenter of Nazareth, husband of Mary and guardian of Jesus. He is depicted as a just man who listens for God in dreams and acts without recorded speech, protecting his family through exile and return.
First-century Galilee was a rural corner of the Roman Empire. Ordinary trades, family life and Jewish faith shaped Joseph's world.
